Community Health Nursing
Community health nursing is a very important profession for the people who live in communities. These nurses help in promoting different health concerns and solutions to health issues to the people of a community. They work, play with them, talk to them and have fun with them in order to promote the basic health and hygiene concerns. The work of community health is quite limited but they are a vital part of the society. Their work includes:
Community and family health: They deal with the problems that are mother related. Nurses are fully equipped with all types of information that is concerned with maternity issues. If any of the women in a community happens to get pregnant and is not able to get proper treatment pr checkup then these nurses are the best servers for them. They provide them with the first hand knowledge about the maternity issues and the precautions that these ladies need to take. Also they recommend a proper diet that needs to be taken by these pregnant women to keep their health as well the health of the child in the womb healthy. They are also responsible for solving child heath issues of school going children. Some of the kids get affected by food poisoning and stuff. They provide immediate care and ideas on how to overcome this problem. Health aging, injury prevention and communicable disease control is also the responsibility of community health nurses.
Health promotion: The department of community health nursing ensures that the nurses are working to identify community needs and then solve their problems by addressing proper solutions to them. Facilitating the community members comes under this category of service.
Health Education: The learners or the community members are always looking forward to health related relevant information. There is nothing better than written material like hand outs to be given to them so that whenever they need a guideline about anything, they have it handy. With the help of multimedia like power point presentations, counseling, videos and peer support, a better health education can be provided to the residents of a community.
Prevention: It is the responsibility of community health nursing department to provide information about the prevention of life threatening diseases like HIV, TB, measles, sexually transmitted diseases etc. Smoking is really injurious to health but many of the citizens of our country are chain smokers. The nurses can really help them in quitting this bad habit by introducing preventive measures.
Supporting Health and Intervention: Families who are under life changing experiences like child bearing, parenting etc are then offered referrals to other services by health department. Young adults are given proper training about counseling and life changing skills and they convey this to the rest of the people of community.
